** It was quite a surprise to learn that many South African radio amateurs were not aware of the SARL VHF, UHF and Microwaves DX Record Table that has appeared for many years on the SARL website. To view it, first click on General Info and then Local Information on the homepage, followed by VHF/UHF/SHF/EHF SA Records and VHF/UHF/Microwave SA Records - 30 June 2013. The SARL records cover the following bands: bands: 50 MHz, 70 MHz, 144 MHz 432 MHz, 1,3 GHz, 2,3 GHz, 5,7 GHz, 10 GHz, 24 GHz and 47 GHz.

The world records are available from the IARU (Region 1), ARRL (Region 2) and Wireless Institute of Australia (Region 3). The SARL DX record table will be updated later this year when new records become available. The purpose of the VHF, UHF and Microwaves record table is to indicate how far a country has advanced in radio technology, and to throw down a challenge where records can be broken by other radio amateurs.

You are tuned to a news bulletin of the South African Radio League read by ________________ (Name and callsign) and we now look at matters from the league

** The SARL held an INTECNET on Tuesday 22 July to brief the SARL delegates on how to vote on the various agenda items. It was disappointing how few radio amateurs used the opportunity to talk about the various agenda items which could affect the future of amateur radio. It is proposed that clubs discuss the agenda items at club meetings and share their feedback with the SARL before in the of August,. . The three delegates representing the SARL are: Geoff Levy ZS6C, Rassie Erasmus, ZS1YT and Riaan Greeff, ZS4PR . The papers can be downloaded from www/iarur1con2014.bfra.bg/ or the link on the SARL web home page. Thanks to the radio amateurs that joined the discussion last week, their input was valuable.

** Time is running out to book for the SARL RTA’s to be held in Gauteng
As announced last week Tony Voorveld ZS6CCD will be delivering the keynote address entitled "The Magic Lamps". The lecture is accompanied by demonstrations depicting the evolution of the valve from the early experiments by Thomas Edison (the Edison effect) to the development of the diode, triode and x-ray tube, thus opening the door to the modern electronics industry. As all with previous lectures by Tony, this one promises to be full of action and interesting demonstrations.
The RTA will be held in Johannesburg on 23 August and in Pretoria on 13 September. Get full details on the SARL web home page.

** Subscription for SARL Membership was due on 1 July . If you have not paid as yet, paid please do so this weekend. If you cannot locate your invoice, please call Vonnie at 011 675 2393 0n Monday. ** The next youth net is on 3 August at 15:00. The net will operate on 7070 kHz. Clubs are invited to activate their club station and facilitate young people to join the net. The net coincides with the SARL HF contest. Please keep 7070 KHz contest free during the youth net between 15.00 and 16:00. Local time.
